Does Open Site Explorer Is The Successor Of Yahoo Site Explorer?

After Yahoo announced it will shut down its Site Explorer until the end of the year, i was researching for a suitable worth successor. After examining a few online tools i think i found it- The new and improved Open Site Explorer (v3) by SEOmoz.

In fact, i think that in many ways it is better than Yahoo Site Explorer because it contains much more relevant data for our times like distinguish between do follow and no follow, possibility to compare between websites and also social media data (Likes, Tweets, +1’s)  although it is currently open just for pro members.

What Information It Provides?

Inbound Links- Presents a complete list of all the links to your website. Although it lacks from Yahoo in numbers, it still provide a clear picture of our own site and of our competitors.

Top Pages- Shows the top site’s pages that other websites are linking to them.

Linking Domains- At the top there is a chart of the distribution of top level domains (.com, .net, .org) and afterwards which domains are linking to the website in order of authority.

Anchor Text- Which anchor texts have been used to link for the website.

Compare Link Metrics- You can compare up to 5 websites. A great feature that can’t be found at Yahoo Site Explorer.

Unique Metrics Definitions

SEOmoz has a few unique metrics of its own:

Page Authority: The probability of the page to rank well, according to links only without consideration of its content in a scale of 0-100.

Domain Authority: The same as page authority, only for the probability of the whole domain to rank well.

MozRank: Calculates the importance of pages both by quantity of links and the quality of them.

MozTrust: Calculates the trust of pages according to links from trusted sources like .gov and .edu.

Conclusion

Until now, this is the best marketing tool i found to inherit our dying Yahoo Site Explorer and it even presents other new features!
