Most of the social networking focus is taken by only few like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, however we might have more players in the field: Two weeks ago i reported on the big rise of StumbleUpon and now looks like we have another social star: Tumblr.
A recent post of comScore points that Tumblr made an incredible progress over a year: In July 2010 it had 4.2 million US visitors, while in July 2011 it went up to 13.4 million US visitor- It has more than tripled and this is only in the US!
It is important to say that Tumblr isn’t the only social network that is rising. As we saw also in another post (Who’s Using Social Networks?) that about 65% of the 18+ years of age internet users are using social networks, considerable percentage that consistently increased in the last 5 years.
Tumblr Age Demographics
Back to Tumblr, comScore also elaborated the users age demographics. Where social networking is more common among younger internet users, this correlation is even more obvious with Tumblr.
About 50% of Tumblr users are younger than 25 years of age and about 70% are younger than 35 years of age. So as for this point in time it seems that Tumblr is very popular among young people and their big test will be to enter as so to the general population.
What are their chances to fall into the consensus? Well, i think that a lot depends on the general direction of the social media ship. If we will continue to see an increase of social network users, Tumblr will probably continue to grow. If we’ll reach the point where people will be too overwhelm from the number of social networks and will focus only in few, Tumblr probably won’t be one of those…
