The drains can get clogged whether you are cautious or not, and unfortunately it will happen when you least expect it. However, instead of using harsh chemicals to clean out your pipes, and instead of calling the plumbers first thing, you can try out some green ways of unclogging problematic drains.
The good thing about alternative green methods is that you will not harm the chemical composition of the pipes and you will also not harm the environment. Moreover, you will use ordinary household items, so you do not have to go and by anything expensive.
The good old plunger
The rule of thumb is that you should buy a plunger before you need one. Furthermore, you should learn how to properly use a plunger to unclog drains, so that you do not do more harm than necessary. But, before you reach for the plunger, make sure that you first try to solve the issue by other means. Unfortunately, the plunger will only make the grime and dirt move back and forth until the clog has moved; in the end you will only solve the issue temporarily. You should use this opportunity to fix the problem while you have free flow in your drains.
The warm water method
If you are dealing with a really problematic clog, then maybe you should try out the warm water and dish soap method; you only need to heat up some water and pour it down the drain, but before that squirt at least half a cup of dish soap and let it sit for a while.
The good thing about this method is that it loosens up any debris in the drains, and lets it move so that the drains are unclogged. Moreover, after you are done, your drains will have a nice fragrance to it for a while.
Clean it with a bang
This is a method that could be a bit volatile but for those who love to experiment with a bang at the end, you should definitely try it out. Baking soda and vinegar is an old favourite when it comes to cleaning up blocked drains and it works perfectly fine, however, when adding the ingredients, it can get a little messy, so caution is advised.
Moreover, you should be patient as the chemical reaction takes some time to clean your drains, and it is best performed at night, when it has time to settle in nicely. Make sure that you do this where children are out of reach so that they do not get harmed in any way.
Although there are many solutions out there, it is always better to try a few alternative methods to see if you can solve the blockage on your own. Once you see that the only option left is to call a professional, and then it is better to ring up a plumber to come and check out blocked drains that are causing you trouble, as they will know best what to do next, before you go ahead and do something dangerous.
Never try to take apart your drains unless you know how to do so and to put them back together, as you might break something and then you might have to pay more than you bargained for in the beginning; always examine the issue beforehand.
