Ways To Save Money On Your Electric Bill

Sometimes it seems like the bills can never end. You go to work 40 hours a week and still find yourself struggling to come up with enough money to support your family and pay all the bills at the same time. Any amount of money that you can save is going to help you. One of the first places to try and save some money each month is by cutting down on your electric bill.

There are plenty of things that you and your family can work on to keep the bill as low as possible. In this article I am going to be going over three easy ways to lower your monthly electric bill so that you can have a few extra dollars each month in your pocket.

A/C Unit

If you live in a state that is warm year around chances are a good portion of your electric bill is going to be based on how much electricity has been used while running the air conditioning unit to cool your home. When purchasing an air conditioning unit it is important to measure the size of the home which you will be cooling. If you buy a unit that is suppose to supply air for an area that is 600 square feet and you install it in a home that is 1200 square feet then you are going to be killing yourself on your bill.

The unit is going to be constantly running to try and cool your home without success. Instead, if you are looking to cool a big home you should purchase a new energy efficient unit. You may pay more initially for the bigger unit but in the long run it will save you money on your bill and will also last you much longer with less maintenance bills.

Lights Off

This is the most common reason that many people have high electric bills. They do not turn of all the lights in their home when they are not using them. When you walk out of the bathroom make sure and turn the light off, same goes for your bedroom, or the kitchen.

Always double check to make sure you did not forget to turn them off. Think about it this way, if you leave a light on by mistake everyday for 2 hours that comes out to 60 hours a month of electricity that you aren’t even using. It adds up fast. Double check yourself and remind family members and friends as well. Also consider switching to some of the new energy efficient low wattage bulbs that are out on the market today.

Upgrade Appliances

Along with your A/C unit other appliances in your home may be out of date and not very energy efficient. Companies are working on new products every day to help cut down on your electric bill. You may think purchasing a new dryer, refrigerator, or dish washer may be expensive but when you break it down over time it will end up saving you a good amount of money.

Spend the money now and watch your electric bill drop immediately. Eventually the new energy efficient appliances you have purchased will have paid for themselves and you will find yourself with some extra money to use on you and your family.
