Contemporary Vs. Traditional Bathrooms

Every one faces this question of whether they should go for a contemporary bathroom or would it better to get a traditional bathroom instead. For some of us the bathroom design is just as important as any other part of the home. A good bathroom design can very well complement the design of the rest of the house.

There is no hard and fast rule that sets the guidelines for choosing a contemporary bathroom or a traditional bathroom; it’s more of a matter of personal choice. I have seen many traditional homes with modern bathroom fittings and many modern homes with traditional bathrooms that blend well with the rest of the rooms.

You should ask yourself what you would prefer, what your guests would appreciate and make the decision according to your own mood set and taste. In this article we take a look at the pros and cons of both contemporary bathrooms as well as modern bathrooms so that it becomes easy for you to make a wise decision.

  • Contemporary:

Many people think that a contemporary bathroom is an ultra modern bathroom, something straight out of a science fiction movie. Even though it’s true that contemporary bathrooms are designed in accordance with the modern technology but still they are very affordable. After all what will be the use of a bathroom if it’s too expensive to be affordable by the masses.

One more thing that you should understand is that you don’t need to implement every other available gadget and technology in your bathroom, just keep in mind what you want and then try to find accessories that are specific to your need. You don’t need to install disco lights or spaceship radars to get your bathroom qualified as a contemporary bathroom.

Contemporary bathrooms must reflect the time and age you are in right now, they must offer a taste of advanced technology but still complement the look and feel of the entire home. It is common for contemporary bathrooms to include giant glass sinks, free standing baths in oblong shaped tubs, body jets in the shower, under floor heating, light and durable furniture and aesthetically appealing lighting.

While gadgets may come at a price of their own, you can still save on the furnishing part of your contemporary bathroom. Plastic comes in different colors and is pretty inexpensive. On the other hand if you wish to use advanced materials like stone resin then it could very well take up the price of your contemporary bathroom.

  • Traditional:

A well designed traditional bathroom can give you the feel of a bathroom from 19th century. The design of traditional bathrooms tends to avoid the use of hi-tech gadgets and sticks to traditional materials for bathroom decoration. You may also note that traditional bathrooms can be quite expensive as they usually incorporate high quality wood furnishing, down lighting, warm fabrics and expensive metals.

Accessories used in traditional bathrooms have a vintage design and are considered by many as novelty items, this added historical and cultural significance can be a downside as it increases their cost.
