Gadgets Every Student Needs

Cats & Gadgets

In this day and age, it’s essential you stock up on good quality, cheap gadgets – you are, after all, a student – that will aid your studies and help curb your boredom. Here are my top picks on the must-have gadgets for uni…

Shape Up Alarm Clock (£17.99)

The two things students hate most of all are 9 A.M lectures and exercise. But unfortunately they’re both good for you (not for your sleep, admittedly, but certainly for your mental and physical aptitude).

This unique alarm clock helps you keep fit and make it to your lectures on time. Sure you’ll hate it after two months – scratch that, two days– but it certainly works. The incessant beeping won’t stop until you do 30 reps. Give it a semester and you’ll be a fitness God.

Doorganizer [sic] (£11.95)

If you’re the type to be running late because you just can’t find your keys, doorganizer [sic] might be the ‘gadget’ for you. Just hang it on your front door or bedroom door, fill it with your essentials and you’re good to go! Now if you can just find your shoes…

iRobot Mini Scooba 230 (£279)

Is it your shift to clean the bathroom? Fear no more. This nifty gadget will do all the work. Just fill it up with water and press “clean”, remembering to dispose the dirty water afterwards. It may come with an expensive price tag but then again, who wants to actually clean?

Kindle Fire HD (£119)

This tablet holds over 22 million films, TV shows, songs, magazines, books, apps and games meaning you’ll never be stuck on finding something entertaining to do. And if you’re home sick, the HD front-facing camera comes in handy when hosting Skype chats with your parents!

Livescribe Smart Pen (£129.99)

This handy gadget makes taking notes in lectures a doddle. It syncs any notes you’ve written or any lectures recorded (yes the pen has audio!) into an Evernote account, meaning your notes will always be safe and ready to access later when it comes to revising for the exams.

Seagate Backup Plus Portable Drive (£51.99)

We’ve all had that experience where we’re finishing a term paper essay and the computer suddenly stops working. Luckily, there is now a gadget to prevent that from happening again. This drive protects your data by backing it up on an external hardware and can share information easily via Flickr, Facebook and Youtube. It’s even available in four different colours – what more can you ask for?!

WordLock Portable Combination Laptop Lock (£34.99)

Whilst this gadget may not be very technology-driven, it is a lifesaver. No one wants to leave their stuff alone, however bringing your laptop to a cafe toilet might not be the best idea either.

This lock can fix the situation. It can anchor onto a desk, table or any fixed structure and has over 10,000 possible combinations to choose from. The only thing you’ll need help with now is choosing your password!

Noise Cancelling Headphones (£29.99)

Whether you’re the type who likes to listen to a little music while studying or the type who has friends who do, these headphones are great for shutting out the world and getting on with work. Whether you choose to do some actual work is up to you, but it might be best now you’re in uni!

With these gadgets acquired, studying has never been easier. Overall, there are hundreds of gadgets to suit every budget but these latest and greatest (and cheapest) gadgets can fill all your basic needs and more.
