Indeed Celebrates Its 7th Anniversary – Company History Lesson

Indeed LogoIndeed, one of the top U.S. employment sites online, is celebrating seven great years this month! If you aren’t familiar with it, Indeed is basically a search engine dedicated only for jobs. Although the site is providing PPC jobs posting program, it is mostly aggregating jobs from many other sources online.

Indeed also advanced to become one of the top employment sites in Europe over the last year, where just in September it had 39% visitors increase. Overall, the site is operating in 53 countries all over the world in 26 different languages. It has about 50 million estimated unique visitors every month which makes it one of the popular job sites on the planet.

Some History…

Paul Forster and Rony Kahan have founded Indeed back in November 2004 as a job search engine and quickly began expanding internationally. In 2005, the company introduced their PPC jobs advertising platform, Sponsored Jobs. However, the main core of aggregated jobs posting remained the dominant one (which probably makes the site so popular worldwide).

Additionally, Indeed also introduced Indeed Publisher, where webmasters can add job widgets to their own websites or even to create a whole new job site using Indeed engine and to receive part of the profits. Today, partner websites who are using Indeed Publisher are responsible for a big portion of the total referral traffic of the site.

Just like any other search engine, Indeed is always trying to improve its search algorithm to provide better relevant job results for queries (for example, major search algorithm update occurred on April this year). In 2008, a new search feature has been added, “search by salary”, which allowed users to search for jobs based on salary estimations.

In February 2009, Job Trends was launched- A product providing insights about certain job queries volume. Over time, more features have been added to Job Trends: Employment stats for geographic locations (Job Postings Per Capita), employment competition (Job Market Competition) and major industries trends (Industry Employment Trends).

This year, Indeed launched a new service in an effort to become also a popular recruitment site- Indeed Resume. With this service, employees can upload their resumes directly to the site and employers can browse through them to find the right candidates for open positions. This service actually made Indeed a much bigger and varied employment service provider for both job seekers and employers.
