Research shows that LED lighting has characteristics that are better for your general health and greater safety than fluorescent ones, tungsten or halogen lights.
LED doesn’t have any flickering, because it is wired to DC as a power source. Opposed to that, lighting bodies that work on AC (alternating current) have a flicker frequency of about 120 Hz (cycles in a second). Light bulbs with tungsten and fluorescent lights flicker, which is hardly visible to the eye, but it does cause problems.
Light and human health
Common illnesses connected to flickering are headaches, eye strain and a general discomfort to the eye. Actually, a study published by the Agency for researching and developing light in 1989 established that exposing workers to a light source without flickering results in 50% decreased headaches.

Next to the safety problems that appear in touching a hot light bulb, these high temperatures can create a “hot spot”; not hygienic conditions in places like groceries where raw meat is stored.
LED doesn’t give out UV light so it is safe for the environment. Fluorescent light bulbs emit UV light, which can cause early aging and skin cancer, as well as eye strain and headaches. A study published in 2008 (Oxford University Press) handled the question of “UV emissions in CFLs light bulbs”. The conclusion is that there can be overreactions of the skin when using them as a special lighting element.
LED doesn’t have mercury so it can be stored safely and simply. Mercury is extremely dangerous and poisonous and it can be found in most tungsten light bulbs, as well as those which are fluorescent.
